Promethean Action Team Brings American System to Capitol Hill

Fifteen Promethean Action activists from eight states descended on Capitol Hill to bring Hamilton’s American System back to Congress. Here’s what happened.

A Promethean fire has been ignited in Washington DC—the American System is being awakened in the Congress. 

Between April 27 and May 1, Promethean Action led a Capitol Hill team of fifteen grassroots activists from eight states that focused on deepening Congress’s understanding of the American System of Economics, and stressing the urgency of backing President Trump’s economic agenda. 

First and foremost, Promethean Action wants to sincerely thank every supporter who contributed time, energy, and money to make our week in Washington such a resounding success. We had around fifty meetings on Capitol Hill, thanks to the hard work of all those constituents who reached out and worked hard to secure meetings with their elected officials. 

With nearly double the manpower compared to previous DC trips, we achieved new milestones: we met with or dropped in on every single Republican in the House and Senate, all the Democratic Senators, and nearly all House Democrats. 

The Message

Our central message to every office we visited was straightforward and powerful: 

“Are you aware that Alexander Hamilton’s American System of Economics was the dominant school of thought in America until the assassination of President McKinley? And did you know that since McKinley our policies have been largely dominated by the same British System that we originally fought to free ourselves from?” 

Most members of Congress and their staff admitted they were not familiar with this history, meaning our role was and is critical to ensuring the Congress understands and backs President Trump’s economic agenda. By distributing our two key economic pamphlets—“What President Trump Can Do with the American System 2.0,” and our brand-new release, “Bye, Bye Globalism—The American System is Back”—we were able to clearly demonstrate how this proven nation-building approach is now succeeding.

We also distributed our hard-hitting pamphlet, “Police Dossier: It Is the British Who Murder Our Presidents,” ensuring Congress and their staff have the evidence demonstrating how British intelligence networks have been the forces targeting American presidents—from President Lincoln to President McKinley to President Kennedy—and ensuring the recent attempts on President Trump’s life are seen in the correct strategic context. 

The Response

Some of us made a deliberate choice not to tailor our message differently between Republican and Democratic offices. Even our most experienced organizers were pleasantly surprised by the warm and open reception we received in nearly every Democratic office. We made it clear that we were reaching across the aisle because building a prosperous, sovereign nation is not a partisan issue. We also distributed a leaflet highlighting several of President Trump’s Executive Orders that could be codified through bipartisan legislation—such as advancing the Space Program as part of an effort to create high-skilled, high-paying jobs for America’s youth. 

The positive responses we received could easily fill a book. Three stand out in particular. 

In a drop-in at a Democratic office, we met a sharp young intern in his twenties who had not only studied Alexander Hamilton but had actually read the Federalist Papers three times. He described President Trump’s use of tariffs as brilliant in some cases. Raised by conservative Republicans but now a Democrat, he was genuinely delighted that we could have a thoughtful, reasoned discussion. He eagerly shared his personal email to stay updated. 

In another Democratic office, the intern came around the desk and hugged the organizer when he heard our message. 

In another case, we had a productive half-hour meeting with a senior aide in his thirties from a Republican congressional office. A self-described libertarian who had idolized Jefferson in college, he had since done his own deep study and concluded that Alexander Hamilton was the true genius behind America’s economic success. He told us the materials we were giving to the office were invaluable because his boss had been complaining that Republicans were failing at messaging to the working-class and low propensity voters they desperately need to turn out in the midterms.
